The AP Southern Power Distribution Company Limited (APSPDCL) has geared up to ensure uninterrupted power supply to its consumers under the Centre's pilot scheme ‘Power for all’ from Gandhi Jayanti (October 2), said SPDCL Chairman and MD H.Y. Dora.
“We are already supplying uninterrupted power on trial basis for the last one and half months by purchasing power from outside. Steps are also being taken to augment supply by another 2,650 MW by January to meet the demand till July 2015,” he said at a media conference here on Wednesday.
Saying that the power supply in the State at present stood at 6,000 MW, Mr. Dora informed that the first unit of (2X800 MW) Damodaram Sanjeevaiah Thermal Power Station at Krishnapatnam would get stabilised by the month-end and the second unit by January 2015. “Hindujas’ 1,040 MW coal-fired power plant in Visakhapatnam is expected to go on stream in January too,” he added.
Mr. Dora said that the SPDCL would finalise tenders for a 1,000 MW solar power plant by this month-end, adding that proposed solar parks in Guntur, Kurnool, Kadapa and Anantapur districts would generate 2,000 MW power. “The government aims at adding 7,500 MW solar power capacities in the next five years and double the wind power capacity in Anantapur district to 1,000 MW,” he said.
Transmission and Distribution network in the discom would be strengthened at a cost of Rs.13,500 crore in the next three years to provide quality power to consumers, he said.
