Chhattisgarh agrees to supply 1000MW power to Telangana

The Chhattisgarh government has agreed to enter into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Telangana government for supply of 1,000 MW of power through its State-run generating company.

Sources from the Energy Department informed that the draft MoU copy with a few changes suggested by the Chhattisgarh government has been sent back to Telangana government for further approval.

It is yet to be presented to the Chief Minister, who will take a final call on this.

It is the first step towards obtaining 1,000 MW of power from the neighbouring State, as planned by the Telangana government soon after it had assumed charge.

Teams of officials, over the months, have visited Chhattisgarh more than once and held deliberations with the Energy officials there.

After finalising the modalities and signing the MoU, a Power Purchase Agreement needs to be signed and approved by the regulator, before the corridor can be booked for evacuation of power.

Supply of power also hinges upon completion of the construction of inter-State power lines by the Power Grid Corporation.
